Youth Aquaponics Program
Youth-designed aquaponic food systems built in response to simultaneous food insecurity and climate stress.
Constraints: degraded soil from climate stress; unreliable rainfall; food insecurity among urban youth; no access to institutional agricultural support
Resources available: fish waste as fertilizer, water recirculation, science education through local schools, community land
Solution: closed-loop aquaponic systems cycling fish waste as plant nutrients and plant roots filtering water back to fish — soil-independent, water-efficient, productive year-round; designed, built, and run by young people with no external institutional backing
